In a country in which the first settlements date back to nearly 7000 BC, it is no surprise to find it to be full of ancient monuments

The most impressive monuments were built by the Mughal emperors, such as the Shalimar Gardens above, whose fountains always seem to be being cleaned or repaired whenever we go there. Their problems stem from massive amounts of sediment in the water.

After the wedding (paid for by the bride's father) it is customary for the couple to attend another dinner function called Walima (paid for by the groom's family), providing yet another opportunity for ladies to dress up and gossip.
