The construction team at work

The final test array of three sets of solar hot water heaters on the roof of the Petroleum Building at the Montana College of Mineral Science and Technology. Our conclusions were: (1) To be economic, solar hot water heaters either have to be home made, or built as part of roofs incorporating them from the outset. (2) Double glazing makes them less efficient (3) acrylic glazing goes brittle during the extreme thermal cycling and cracks (4) Electronic control is essential for efficient operation

Being interviewed about the project by the local television station, KXLF. We had just been on the roof on a sub-zero degrees Fahrenheit day to look at the arrays. My interviewer seemed to be impervious to the cold
